Access to adequate housing is pivotal for the holistic development of any nation, contributing to improved health, security, productivity, and overall human development. However, in India, housing remains a significant challenge, particularly for the urban poor. This issue is multifaceted, characterized by two primary concerns: a scarcity of adequate housing units and the substandard habitability of existing units within the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Low-Income Groups (LIG) sectors. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), these categories encompass individuals with an annual income ceiling of up to Rs 3 lakh for EWS and Rs 3-6 lakh for LIG, respectively. The Middle-Income Group (MIG) constitutes the next income bracket, with an income range of 6-18 lakhs per annum.
This Conference aims to address the issues pertaining to the role of spatial standards in the provision of effective housing solutions for marginalized urban communities.
